John Kevin Stitt, an American politician and businessman born on December 28, 1972, has been the 28th governor of Oklahoma since 2019.
He was elected in 2018 as a Republican, defeating Drew Edmondson, a Democrat and former state attorney general, with 54.3% of the vote. With 55.4% of the vote, Stitt defeated Democrat-turned-Republican Joy Hofmeister for the position of Superintendent of Public Instruction in 2022.
Stitt, a Cherokee Nation member, follows previous Oklahoma governor Johnston Murray as the second governor of Native ancestry.
